All by Myself

I love going to church as a family, I enjoy watching Monkey kiss the icon’s and take communion but last Sunday Monkey and DH were under the weather so I went solo…and I loved it! I forgot how great our choir is, how I fancy the smell of incense, I actually enjoyed standing for the entire service in 2’’ heels. But once it was time to take communion I missed my little Monkey. I am going to count the three hours though as “me” time ;)

The picture is from my first communion!

the more you talk about your religion the more your spark my interest..is your mass/service/dont know what you call it..really 3 hours long? and you have to stand for the whole thing? i love learning about new religions..it usually starts me questioning my own..and it bothers me so much that pete is not the same religion and he wont convert..considering he is not religious what-so-ever..
i would consider it me time also! =)

I'm glad you got "me" time in...even though it wasn't planned! I was raised Roman Catholic and Andrew Jehovah Witness...but neither of us still practice those religions. I have not found one religion that fits my believes but I'm a good christain and I teach my children how to be good christians. Thats what matters, right? Altough I don't have a specific organized religion I find that I live a more religious life than many people who go to church. It would be nice to have a group of people with similar beliefs to share with though :) Maybe one day I'll find that right fit. I bet your mass is absolutly beautiful during the Holidays!

Our services start at 9 and end at 11, before Monkey I would go a half hour earlier to pray and after service we to the church hall to have coffee and bagels however now that we have Monkey we go late, he just can't do an entire Sunday service. In the Orthodox Church all children (even babies) stay through the entire service. Our services are natural loud and that’s all the children so they are good. And yes if you can you stand. The most important thing for a Christian is to have a strong living relationship with Christ, which I have and had before being Orthodox but now I feel complete since I am baptized and take communion. I have been looking for the right church my whole life, the moment I walked through my church's doors I knew I was home.

children can stay during a catholic mass also..just most of the time you see the parents walk to the back when the kids are being really rambuctious (sp?)..
i sure as he gets older you can start trying to get there early again and be then for a longer time..
i was just looking at the church bulletin at my parents and thinking me and Cheye will become a bit more active in the church and do some things..
im glad you finally feel at home with your beliefs and what not! =)

I just found your blog, and I'm so glad I did. It is wonderful to connect with other Orthodox moms in the blogging world.

It is very rare that I am able to go to church alone, but when I do, I always feel like I am finally able to pray. With three kids four and under, it is very rare that I am able to focus for more than a few minutes. My husband and I try to take turns during the longer fasts so that we each have opportunities to go without the children. This is especially helpful during Lent when many of the services are difficult for little children to make it through.
I'm glad you were able to go it alone!
